The Nantucket County Probate and Family Court has jurisdiction over all divorce and paternity matters within the county.
The family court judge assigned to this court is the First Justice Honorable George F. Phelan.
The courthouse is in the Town and Country Building at 16 Broad Street in Nantucket.
The Court has one session day per month when all matters are heard by the judge. The session is held on the first Thursday after the second Tuesday of each month. Continuances are permitted, if assented to by both parties, otherwise, at the discretion of the judge. After the parties file a complaint, motion, petition, or other pleading, the clerk's office will assign a hearing time for the matter.
The Attorney You Hire on Nantucket Should Give You a "Home-Court Advantage"
While each Massachusetts Probate and Family Court judge applies the same set of laws, Judge Phelan may interpret the law and handle procedure in his courtroom a bit different than the others. As our attorneys are assigned to specific regions and courthouses, it is in times like these that you need family law attorneys like Attorney Amy Huff - who knows how things work in her different counties and courthouses.
Does that mean Amy litigates every case? No. However, she does prepare each case as if it is going to trial. We believe Attorney Huff's preparation and willingness to go to court leads to more favorable settlement offers.
